Claudius has always wanted power. He killed his own brother so that he could gain the throne and Gertrude for his own. That being said, he still feels guilty and wants to atone for what he has done. He will do anything to make sure his reputation remains untainted. He wants to send Hamlet away to England after he kills Polonius as Hamlet poses a threat to Claudius both personally and he doesn't want the kingdom to think that he had anything to do with the homicide. He has orders written down that when Hamlet arrives in England, he is to be killed.Claudius wants Hamlet out of the way so that he doesn't feel threatened that his secret will be found out. This plan backfires on Claudius as Hamlet makes it onto a boat bound for Denmark, but sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern onto England where they are killed. The song, "Shake It Out", by Florence + The Machine suits Claudius as it is about someone who wants to get rid of some guilt or memory of something, but they are unable to and the regret weighs them down. Claudius wants to atone for the murder but is unable to as he like the power that he got from it.
